God vs. science is an oxymoron

God versus science is an oxymoron

Time magazine’s front cover on November 13 features God vs. Science, a spirited debate between atheist biologist Richard Dawkins and Christian geneticist Francis Collins.

The two words used together are contradictions in terms as a figure of speech and, therefore, are oxymorons.

Oxymoron is a Greek term derived from oxy (sharp) and moros (dull). The meaning is that which is sharp and dull.

Oxymorons are used in everyday speech. When a person uses the words Civil War, for instance, that is a contradiction in terms of speech. No war has ever been civil. Another oxymoron is “a fine mess.” Has anyone ever seen a mess that is fine?

Time magazine’s editors apparently like to create dual or opposite ends of subjects when creating articles of such magnificent and far ranges off the scale of consciousness. The two scientists, one an atheist, and one a Christian, debate a subject from a dualistic perspective when in reality science is an empirical subject to begin with.

Both men then are reasoning empirically which is a central concept in science and the scientific method. In other words when talking about God vs. science both men depend on evidence that is observable by the five senses.

Dawkins has a new book titled, “The God Delusion,” and he is quoted in the magazine when asked about his suggestion.

“The question of whether there exists a supernatural creator, a God, is one of the most important that we have to answer,” he said. “I think that it is a scientific question. My answer is no.”

Collins says in answer to the question if he believes that science is compatible with the Christian faith? “Yes. God’s existence is either true or not. But calling it a scientific question implies that the tools of science can provide the answer. From my perspective, God cannot be completely contained within nature, and therefore God’s existence is outside of science’s ability to really weigh in.”

We, in the metaphysical community, which includes all people who believe in God’s existence, do not need two scientists to tell us of God’s existence. Many of us went through a period in the 60’s when the great debate was “God is Dead.” Atheist and agnostics and heavens know who else were not convincing then, and they are not convincing now in the 21st century.

More and more people are coming to realize that a new consciousness is streaming through in world spirituality, and one of the new voices is that of Ken Wilber, and his Integral Spirituality that is sweeping across the United States and abroad.

Wilber has been quoted by Bill Clinton and Al Gore as a voice to be reckoned with on the world scene of today and tomorrow. Wilber, as some people believe, is the “philosopher of the post modern era.” He is publishing voluminous material, and has a great website called Integral Institute.

The Integrating Operating System (IOS) helps index everything from art to dance to business to psychology to politics to ecology. His new theories allow each of these domains to talk to each other.

While talking on subjects as heavy as God and science, with the great depth of each, it is easy to be confused with all the voices being parlayed to discuss the existence of God.

We know without a doubt that God exists. We know God exists within ourselves. We know that we can talk and communicate with God within us.

    So where is the debate?

God versus science is an oxymoron! GodScience is an oxymoron! There are too many morons weighing in on the existence of God question, so be silent and know there is God!
