    New FORUMS

I am guessing this is the spot for suggestions as to how to improve the forum. I hope everyone will jump in here and start suggesting things. These forum things are pretty fluid; I would imagine things could be added fairly easily (maybe not?).

    I suggest:

Integral Literature/Resources - As of now, there is a thread, " Use this forum to discuss video, audio and text assets in the ISC Library and Media pages," as well as places for discussions of the Journals. Both are great, but I think there should be a place to discuss integral literature in general. I am sure endless threads for Ken's books would be started, but there is so much more fascinating literature out there that we could discuss and learn from eachother with. It just seems so obvious... I can't understand why there is only a place to discuss exclusively "ISC" material -- GREAT as all of it is. This seems such a large space for sharing and learning... I can even imagine sub-categories of: Spirituality, Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy.. though there may be so much overlap between these topics on a forum like this (or at least one could expect that), that it might not be very useful to even make these distinctions. Just some ideas, hopefully other's can weigh in if this is a desirable feature. The important part to me is to have a place where we can share literature. Not so much "book reviews", just maybe what we've learned, or what's really grabbed us, or a simple heads up to all the rest of us if we might be interested in similar things (I'm sure we are!).

Integral Art - As of now, there is a thread, " Discuss Integral Art and what it is to be an Integral Artist" (only 8, rote threads, I might add). Perhaps there should also be a place for people to BE Integral Artists!!! Which is really just to say, why isn't there an open place for people to share pictures, poems, songs, etc? It seems that the relevancy of the art to the artist would be just as important as the piece of art work-- so of course this type of discussion and actual sharing could occur. And of course this isn't limited to our own work... It would also be great to see a place where we can recommend integral artists (of course, in our own opinion, as topics of discussion) and inspire eachother to reach expand our boundaries. I simply feel like people interested in Integral don't want to come read a theory about Integral, they want to SEE it. Art is one crux of seeing in this way. Here, I envision subcategories being more relevant... perhaps: Music, Visual/Graphic Arts, Poetry, Prose/Essay/Reflections. I am likely spacing off on other facets, but as I say, hopefully others will weigh in on this.

These are simply two suggestions that I personally feel would greatly enhance this site, not only in terms of bringing more involvement, but also bringing more creativity, perhaps a greater sense of community. I know I would/will participate in these types of forums however I could.

I can simply imagine these as being endlessly intellectually/spiritually productive and surprisingly/obviously inspiring.

Thank you for any response and suggestion from all. God bless,
    tim.

    Re: New FORUMS

    Hi Friend,

Thanks for this post. I personally think some changes are important, and even imperative. Right now I find the forum layout confusing and I am really only able to keep up with those forum topics I search out and participate in. I could use some visual organizational help.

From the perspective of an Integral overview I would say we are in a critical time, and must participate in a greater dialogue with our culture, other cultures and the social systems that run our world, more often than not in a dysfunctional condition, as well as the consciousness that can shed light on all those – in 2 words a Global Dialogue. For example, Al Gore, thankfully, is focused on a crisis, Global Warming, but as we know Global Warming is only one part of Integral Sustainability. There are many other problems regarding sustainability we must look at to grow as a society. It requires a full AQAL overview, which some in the community are working on, and we absolutely need to hear more from them.

Your idea of a forum for literature, philosophy, etc is great. I see no reason why the topics can’t be formatted in an Integral user friendly manner. “Book reviews” are fine by me, like Amazon does it. We can’t all read everything, and though Ken might be at a doctoral level in 24 fields, I’ll be lucky to achieve that in the equivalent of one field. Actually, I would like a weekly or monthly leading list from Ken, what he is finding current and valuable. I disagree with you when you say “people don’t want to come read a theory about Integral.” Well, yes they do, but that may not be all they wish to do, so a full spectrum approach is ideal. As far as the theory, do we really understand the 8 modes of inquiry, including Phenomenology, Hermeneutics, and Autopoiesis? Maybe not, and I'm not saying we all have to become conversant in all that, to be Integrally aware, but the theory and methodology is still very rich for dialogue.

Personally, I like the idea of Integral Peace as another entry into Global Dialogue, because it includes looking at conflict interactions, solutions, and transformations, both politically, socially, and culturally. In addition it has a pragmatic social vehicle in the proposed Department of Peace for the United States cabinet. And it would be hard not to dialogue seriously about a new political outlook in the era of a Barack Obama and his aspirational approach.

    Anyway, that’s more than 2 cents worth…

    Jim
