    kblogs

by kblog i mean a blog at kenwilber.com. as you may already know, these are no longer written only by ken. i'm not aware of any specific place where we can comment on these, so this thread is being started for that purpose. if you want to begin a thread commenting on a specific kblog, post your intention here, together with a link to the thread and the date of the kblog. i'll try to keep what results as clear as possible.

Thanks for this Ralph! A great idea.

    Re: kblogs

hey tim! your input is alway--at least, almost always :), really appreciated. i can imagine needing you or balder to get me out of some of the inevitable binds that could show up.

first problem: when i pasted in the link to the thread 'the engine of development', it became ordinary text without any linking ability!??

    Re: kblogs

    Here Ralph:

Write some text -probably the title of the blog (or whatever link you would want to use anywhere for that matter) then select it. While that text is selected, up top, from left to right there are bottons for:

    Bold, then

    Italics,

    then Underscore,

    then Indent, Odent,

    then Bullets,

    then Numbered Bullets

then a little icon that shows "the world" and a chain link. This s the link botton. Click it, a little box will open asking you to insert the URL. Paste the link there, press OK (or whatever) and your text will now be a link.

    tim,

stupid question: how do i get started? where do i write this text that's to become a link? i want to add it to the message initiating this thread, which i can do using the EDIT button, but then i don't see any of the buttons you say should be up above, even after i've highlighted, i.e., selected the text!??

    Re: kblogs

    Sorry Ralph,

    Let's see;

Go to your original message and click the Edit button. (Be sure your signed in!Stick out tongue [:P]) Or simply create a new message.

Type the text into your original message or wherever you type text for any message.

The buttons are right on top of where you type text for any new or edited message. Looks like this.

There's the B for bold, I for italics, U for underscore, etc. then look at that little greenish blue globe with a chain link in front of it -3rd from the end (the far right).

So write "The Engine of Development" into the text of your post -anywhere, select it (as if to copy and paste or something), while it is selected click that globe/chain and a box that says "Hyperlink" will appear. Put the URL in and press okay.

See if that helps. We'll get you to figure it out somehow!Smile [:)]

    Tim

PS -tip: if you run your mouse over the icons I pasted above, slowly, and let your mouse rest on top of each one a little "pop up" will appear telling you what the button is for. This is the same in your normal post/ edit post box when you post or edit any message.

    Re: kblogs

    cool! tim.

i feel so enlightened, i'm not even going to test this out before thanking you. of course, as a lovely teacher once said to me, 'computers are dumb! dumb! dumb! i mean, why couldn't they have told me what you just did?

    ralph

p.s. 'the last word' from kbogs looks like it might be worth starting a thread on. would you be willing to do that? i can promise a good message or two. :))

    Re: kblogs

LOL Ralph. I reached the firm certainty that computers would never be smarter that human beings when I was trying to edit a website I put up years ago and it kept telling me "You can not log in because you need permission from the administrator -please contact tim melody."

I feel kind of uncomfortable starting a thread on my own blog - or should I feel so?Hmm [^o)]

Maybe you should do it - as teacher's assignment for hyperlinking practice.

    Geeked [8-|] Re: kblogs

    hey tim!

i see your point. i was thinking in terms of the concall threads, which are initiated by the individual callers. my hope, of course, is that readers of kblogs, and there must be many of them, will want a place to comment on them, and somehow find out about i-i commons.

i'd be glad to start it. your blog has a freshness to it we seldom see: i'm not even sure what to make of it, because i haven't experienced anything quite like it. you know what my first thought was? 'portrait of the artist as a young man'. that was followed, i guess, by the protrait of a dog, ha ha, and now we have your portrait, so we're moving in the right direction, again.

so why wouldn't that asshole tim melody let you log in? lalol. i hate to bring this up, but i'm competing with my computer for dumbness. i'm going to type something, and highlight it, just to show you i'm not getting any of those buttons above the message:

    dumb! dumb! dumb!

see? nothing happened! the computer doesn't like me! boo hoo.

anyway, i'd better first read the rest of blogopalooza--great stuff--before i start that thread.

    Re: kblogs

Ralph! You said the word "asshole!" Or rather wrote the word asshole! You normally come off as so polite, even shy and timid . . . . is the portrait of the artist rubbing off on you? Are you becoming Tim-ed?

Your last post was hilarious. And thanks for your kind and words of impression from the blog. Freshness? That sound like a good thing.Smile [:)] Thanks. That's really interesting.

Now, also, are you really still having trouble with the bottons? I wonder if it might not be your computer, or your browser. If you write something, select it (something I can not think of a way to demonstrate here!) and then press any of those bottons while the text is highlighted or selected (i.e. the text turns white with a black box around it) then you should be able to use them. Press the B is goes Bold, etc.

Here's a couple tips. You can select something by - typing, then holding down the SHIFT key and using the ARROW buttons (to the right of your keyboard at the bottom, used usually by your right hand) to go backwards; if you are holding SHIFT down pressing the ARROW keys should select everything you go over.

Another tip. For Bold, try Ctrl B (hold down control button on your keyboard, and type the letter B) Sam thing for Ctrl I, which creates Italics, Ctrl U for UNDERSCORE. (And the hit the two buttons again to turn those functions OFF.)

Now, it seems to me there should be a command like that for a link . . .. but I don't know what it is. Maybe someone else does and will jump in?

Either way, keep at it young buck! You can do it! We're all pullin' for ya!

Okay, see ya later asshole. Angel [A]

    Ha! Ha! Ha!

Tim! it's all your fault! you're corrupting an old man, leading him to perdition.

no, seriously. i wouldn't be surprised if i have some inhibitions, but this can be tricky to tease out. for example, we have david deida, of your infamous generation, berating/kidding KW for being a goodie goodie ('Ken Wilber is a fraud'), and KW's compassionate reply that he has some adult responsibilities he can't just walk away from. granted that he has a much better sense of true responsibility than i do, i can't just say, well, fuck it then, until i learn true responsibility, i might as well be irresponsible. can i? it's like you said: conditioning, and deconstructing that conditioning.

it may be that ibooks just don't rate on the multiplex: there seem to be alot of things i can't do.

    ever onward,

    ralph

p.s. SHIFT/ARROW works for selecting, but it's indicated by a blue background, which i can't do a damn thing with, even with the various Ctrl + appropriate letter combinations.
