Hello
Integral web-surfers! ![Smile [:)]](/Public/cs/emoticons/emotion-1.gif)
I find myself in the good graces to be in
attendance at the conference, while double dipping on a business trip
to the Bay area. For those of you folks who are interested, I'll give
tell about some of the presentations. However, I suppose it would be
for the greater good to leave any discussion of the Steve McIntosh
presentation to writers and informants of greater talent....![Wink [;)]](/Public/cs/emoticons/emotion-5.gif)
Barbara
Dossey, speaking eloquently, painted a mental framework of “The
edge-runner” emergence in evolution and specifically in the field
of health care. Illustrating Florence Nightingale as an edge runner,
and a mystic of her time, she spoke of the theory of Integral
Nursing, and illustrated the available perspectives from each of the
AQUAL four quadrants, with healing being the central focus in the
matrix, and of course, the intention of health care.
As
a nurse herself, she embraces the holistic and traditional nursing
methods and recognizes that there are serious problems in the system
we have in the United States with care providers burning out and
leaving the profession. Reconnecting with the spiritual motivation
for the work engages the UR aspect, of the work, while a call to
colleagues in the world of medicine for help in the UL was something
I resonated with personally.
An
appeal for the signature drive of the “Nightingale Declaration”
was made; please visit www.NightingaleDeclaration.net
to sign the pledge and support:
1)
A grassroots-to- global campaign gathering 2 million signatures from
all 192 UN Member States; 2) a UN resolution for an international
year of the nurse in 2010-the centennial of Florence Nightingales
death; 3) A UN resolution for a UN Decade for a Healthy World—2011
to 2020—The bicentennial of Nightingales birth; 4) A series of
global consultations and regional education programs to build a
worldwide collaborative NDC team.
Here
is the Pledge:
"We,
the nurses and concerned citizens of the global community, hereby
dedicate ourselves to the accomplishment of a healthy world by the
year 2020.
We
declare our willingness to unite in a program of action, sharing
information and solutions to resolve problems and improve conditions
-- locally, nationally and globally -- in order to achieve health for
all humanity.
We
further resolve to adopt personal practices and to implement public
policies in our communities and nations, making this goal for the
year 2020 achievable and inevitable, beginning today in our own
lives, in the life of our nations and in the world at large."

A
question that was asked spoke of the masculine/feminine influences
and imbalance in the workplace and the circumstances of employment
that the Nurses operate in. A physician in attendance and Mrs. Dossey
both viewed that as areas of necessary work in what I would classify
as the lower left and right quadrants.
Barbara
Dossey is the the author of many respected and award winning books.
Her latest book, Florence Nightingale: Mystic, Visionary, Healer,
focuses on the philosophical and practical impact of Florence
Nightingale's life and work on modern nursing and humankind.
Her
website has a transcript of the speech she gave about Florence
Nightingale in the Washington National Cathedral, in August, 2001.
