I would like to try to debunk 2nd tier and propose that knowledge of human development is just a small artifact that does not define Teal or Turquoise. I also will try to debunk 3rd tier in another post.
In order to debunk knowledge of human development as a pre-requisite for 2nd tier, I will do two things. First, I have to show that Teal can function without it. Second, I have to show how the other stages work with knowledge of human development for contrast. The result of these two will show that knowledge of human development is just a type of knowledge, and is not a necessity at all for 2nd tier.
ITEM 1: Can Teal be integrated without knowledge of human development?
Let's take a look a Green. Let's say that in Green, you start to perceive the post-modern revolution instantaneously. All of a sudden you realize that none of your thoughts have an absolute basis. You realize that none of your thoughts are without bias. You realize there is no absolute basis to judge anything. All judgement is prejudice. Thus, you decide to stop judging, and heiarchy is the baby thrown out with the bath water. Now you're fully stuck in Green's paradox. The only way out it to do your best to determine commonalities of what is healthy and unhealthy to start moving again. In our society, where developmental psychology is not common knowledge, we have assumed that it is the next stage, and in fact 2nd tier. I propose otherwise.
I propose that Green can develop into Teal without any knowledge of human development. Teal is an exploration and learning to trust your feelings with wisdom, using as much knowledge we have to come up with the fairest, healthiest possibilities, all the while knowing that we have no basis for this except an interior "feel good" attempt. People entering Teal become frozen with indecision because the task is so daunting. The fear that one might be wrong (relatively speaking), or inefficient, or unhealthy is prevalent. There are just too many possibilities, and they are prejudices, after all. It is the process of learning to function knowing that knowledge is not rooted to the ground. You learn to walk 10 feet above the ground, without any absolute foundation. In other words, you learn to integrate and function with post-formal-operational thought. (Couldn 't it be possible for us to learn to function this way and still not know anything about human development? I don't think Teal requires this tidbit of a pre-requisite. It just turns out that teal resolved itself in part by using knowledge of human development in the real world.)
I propose that Turquose is the stage where you're able to step into the world and help the world function better. You have accepted the fact that everything is made up. You have accepted that we all function in cultural bias, and can thrive and manipulate it. You start looking for ways to help others by manipulating their construction of concrete-operational rules or formal-operational rules. You help them to question their own way of thinking. The only difference between Turquoise doing this and Green doing this is that Turquoise utilizes post-formal thought, while Green would still try to use mostly formal-op thought, since they haven't integrated post-formal yet. Green has just begun to see through post-formal eyes, while Turquoise has integrated it. Once again, knowledge of human development is not necessary to integrate post-formal-operational thought, or to function in society with it. There are many "Turquoise" people out there who still do not endorse heiarchy.
ITEM 2: How would the other memes function with knowledge of human development?
Let's look at Amber. Amber is at concrete-operational rules. If a child were to have the fortune to be born with two parents with tremendous knowledge of human development and shadow projection, the child could learn these at Amber, but in a concrete-operational way. He could still to gestalt therpay on shadow he uncovers, and can "fix" his lower stages, utilizing concrete-operational rules. Thus he has a limited ability to grasp his developmental stages and integrate them.
Let's look at Orange and Green, which function at formal-operational rules. Now this fortunate child has the tools of formal-operational thinking to help integrate the lower stages. With knowledge of AQAL, he can make a conscious decision to not deny Interiors, but to include them in his current state, or to identify his shadow of denied interiors and work with it. Thus he has a growing ability to grasp his developmental stages and integrate them. Many psychologists who use human developmental stages operate from either of these stages.
At Turquoise, one is able to use post-formal-operational thought, thus growing his ability to grasp his developmental stages and integrating them further. The fortunate child can now help Green to start trusting commonalities again to continue development. It can resolve the problem that logic, physics, psychology, and sciences will never be absolute truths, by understanding that they are tools that can be wielded, manipulated, and reshaped.
Thus, I propose that in a hypothetical culture that recognizes shadow projection and human developmental stages, 2nd tier does not separate itself in a truly revolutionary way. It's just a matter of growth. It increases a person's ability to grasp all of his stages and integrate them. But the inherent ability to grasp all of his stages and integrate them is holonic in nature and thus exists before Turquoise, as shown above.
CONCLUSION: 1) Human developmantal knowledge is not necessary for 2nd tier thinking. 2) 1st tier becomes open-ended, allowing for post-post-formal operational stages. (assuming the debunking of 3rd tier, as discussed elsewhere, takes hold)
