Moreover, after further contemplation this method of generating energy also has a sense of aesthetic beauty I believe, if one can imagine a sun ray that is maintained day & night (a couple thousand scattered strategically around the world and probably located on the outskirts of major urban centers I would suppose) to look at this light and know immediately (with objective evidence) that humans are living in a more harmonious and sustainable fashion from quite literally a beam of light, I think is really quite accelerating vision.

    Liz,

This is a remarkably late reply to your post, but this is the first I have been on II in several months.

I too have been brooding about what appears to be an untenable situation that humanity has wrought on this Earth. I believe that short of some step change in human evolution, we are likely to suffer some dramatic die back if not complete annihilation before too long.

While the idea that humanity will simply snuff itself out seems pretty grim, and the likelihood that we are krill for be sample by the whales, I can't help but feel a strongish urge to continue the race.

So, I have decided to begin an effort simlar to Hari Seldon's "Foundation" (from the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov) except, instead of monitoring the progress of humanity through time, this will be a Foundation to preserve the knowledge, achievements and evolution we have scrabbled to acquire in a small hope that if we do survive whatever cataclysm the universe seems certain to mete upon us, that we start, not from the very beginning, but from the height of our accomplishments.

Assuming that we are worth perpetuating, the idea of doing this seems daunting - unachievable even, yet I do not think I can sleep if I do not at least make an effort. A real effort, not an intellectual exercise.

I invite you, and anyone you feel might be interested to argue, exalt, challenge, encourage, deride,  or otherwise contribute.

If you can talk, you can sing, If you can walk, you can dance!
