Sam sees lambsies by the yam seas ...

My wife enjoys connecting with the locals as a cashier at Ace Hardware in Kihei. Today was busy until a Hawaiian came up to the register, and then everyone disappeared. They had time to talk. She complimented him on his tattoos. He told her he had been a security guard for many years at the Ulua resorts on night patrol, and that he would encounter the Night Marchers we have heard about, unquiet Hawaiian spirits, disturbed by the violation of their burial grounds. He was protected by his sacred tattoos, which they recognized.

Rambsie, lambsie, you have no idea!  And that is even before Heather is on the list...

I am at work.  My last patient, not a word of a lie, just came in and told me "I have acid reflections in my stomach, and irresistable bowel disease...." otherwise, it has been very busy and everyone is very sick.  I am dreaming of Hawaii...and numerous other escapes.......I am planning to marry a very rich man soon for purely financial reasons......there are still a few details to work out.

Unless you come into an unexpected inheritance from some ancient Uncle Pharoh or something, and thereby get a large oceanside villa on your precious Maui, I would not worry about the accomodations etc.....however, is there a nice beach to hang out on without constant traffic where we could roast a pig and have drinks in pineapples and coconuts with little umbrellas...?  Otherwise, I think you all should come to my beach.......next summer in July.....By the way, what happened to Mark?......he is the one with the s'mores plan to begin with! The only thing, if you come to my beachI don't know if we can get Van Morrison to come, and I am quite sure Elizabeth Taylor would be out of the question.  We did get Smilely Bates though(Beverly Hillbilly theme song fame) but he has since gone to the next phase after life.

Jane (cochair of the maui s'mores integral gathering planning committee)

PS: (I think the Prodigal Son thread could on and off diverge from the poetic deep and serve as  our official meeting minutes. Do we all agree?)

The beaches are free ... but there are Night Marchers.

    Could we all get tattoos?

This is the only place to get them. And you're going to need them anyway if you want to sit on the beach under the stars. The pineapple coconut bombs with the fancy little umbrellas are complimentary. And so, it goes without saying, is the Maui Wowie.

Re: Return of the Prodigal Son

I am in the middle of admitting a sick guy.....there is a horrible chest thing on the go around here....

So how big is Maui? and what is life like outside the resort thing that goes on? Are there any places like Joe's beach huts, know only to the locals.....?

An absolutely idylic and secluded tropical beach hut with a grass roof known only to the locals, just like you see on the postcards? Oh please. This is pre-apocalyptic America. Those things went out with the teepees. There are fabulously beautiful beaches with enchanting offshore islands, lovely mountains, and a majestic volcano.

    Igloos. I want igloos.

You two fight it out and I'll see if I can make it-wherever you are. Hopefully, I can bring a wee guest...

Re: Return of the Prodigal Son

Well, I can manage igloos, but only in February, March.....we even build them in our survival courses...and sleep in them overnight.....it is not really not that much fun, if I was to be completely honest....We do a lot of winter camping though in cloth tents with stoves inside and spruce bow floors....

I am disappointed though about the beach huts with the straw roofs.  Do you know where these are readily available is in Montanita Ecuador......They have wonderful tiles everywhere and fountains too and bouganvilla(sp?)....there is also good surfing, and we could live there for months on very little.... I might even be able to forego the aforementioned liason to the rich fellow and still live the life I plan to become accustomed.....

But first, Hawaii.....I am serious about this, and honestly the fabulous beaches, majestic volcano and beautiful valleys will be wonderful.......

And then there is the other paradise
    Promised in death or realization,
More illusory than heaven on earth
But possible with the right connections.

    Jane,

So nice to be noticed when I'm gone!  Thanks, but I've been workin' for the mighty one-eyed Searsclops for a few too many days in a row, and you know what ordinary life does to forum energies.

Not that I could ever compete with Ramsses, let alone Maui... but Pinellas County (where Clearwater and my retirement "mobile home" are) does have 2 of the 3 best rated beaches in the country (Hawaii included) so I'm not quite so motivated to travel to a beach as many might be.  Current water temp. is still 80 degrees but in March it'll be down to 72 or so.

Here's a slightly surreal shot of Clearwater Beach recently:

Nuts, I've forgotten how to post a photo again.  But hey, gimme a break, I turned 65 on Monday.

(OK, it's a day later and I figured it out.  My brain works at dial-up, not cable or DSL, speeds.)

    -Mark(s'mores)

Just enough enlightenment for this time around, please.
