Someone help me recognize the greatness of Tony Robbins, ok?  I don't quite get it, and thus am probably missing something...

I don't see the big deal about tony robbins either. he kind of let me down over the years.  he seems to be all about money now and for people that have already "arrived".  like this website for instance - talk about narcissism and the spiritual shiek.  i can't stand boomer spirituality or there "i am god" philosphy or there wives to be quit honest.  i mean - talk about putting your holy feet in anothers face and say, "hey i have arrived."  i can't stand it and i don't know why i keep coming back to these websites.  it is for the so called "spiritual superstars." i can't stand there attitudes about sex and the feminine and there over zealous confused teachings on tantra and there cocky boomer demeanor.  it is just like a boomer to know absolutly everything because, Christ, they have seen it all.  and now generation "Y" is following in there self centered footsteps with there strategic planning of there every move.  who are these people and better yet  - how did you get there?  not a fan...i was, but not really anymore.  too much of the groupie thing and not enough compassion.  there elitists and most of them would probably pass a bum in the street and not even think twice.  but you know what?  it's a goddamn secret.  the whole fucking thing.  none of these people seem to give a shit - it's like going to a yoga class, where the almighty "sting" is teaching and all the women - most of them in a relationship, wear caked make up and a revealing leotard - so they can get in "stings" pants.  the former lead singer of the police is a fake too.  just like the jerry falwells - the opposite of christ and the buddha - the opposite of yoga - union and prayer.  there opposites.  it is - enlightenment (to be off light) for others not yourselves.  believe or not YOGA was not born so you can JUST last longer in the fucking bedroom or do a pose to perfection.  just remeber the sermon on the mount.  it is all there.  wake up...the world needs help not more superstars.

You ask a great question. To answer, I will simply share my experience with Tony Robbin's teachings.
First of all, I totally understand your doubt. Tony Robbins, for many people, is associated with Personal Power infomercials and, as a result, not typically associated with spirituality. While his approach to living life fully may not be for everyone (ultra high energy), , Mr Robbins is much more than an infomercial.

Having studied his teachings in early 90's (just starting my work-life), I found his instructions liberating. Looking back I now realized that he encouraged an integral life from a "common sense" approach (obviously he did not have Ken's AQAL framework).  He addressed our need to recognize all aspects of our life (as does integral) and, if we wish, exercise, change and grow these areas of us. His understanding of human nature and the mind is much more thorough than people would assume. His techniques for "self-questioning" lead me to a much deeper understanding of myself and a began a spiritual search whereupon I discovered Ken Wilber (in 1995) and other spiritual teachers. My life path took a turn that I never anticipated in High School of college and this path has lead to the present -- and I am grateful.  

Other aspects of his teachings that I appreciated were his emphasis on having perpetual gratitude, serving others, faith and, to put it simply, not to be too serious all the time (i.e. have fun, spirit loves humor). He does not shy away from the topics of money and possessions (items that tend to be considered anti-spirit but are part of our lives). But he always grounds his teachings and have you do a reality-check by asking for a deeper "why?", "is your motivation of a higher nature?", "what will this bring to your life?", "are you fooling yourself?", "how will this impact your relationship wit others?". Plus, from interviews and articles I have read of Tony Robbins, he continues to grow, share his experiences, teach and motivate people to  embrace life.

So, in conclusion, Tony Robbins' teachings are not for everyone, just as Ken's works are not, but he does a great job addressing people "where they are" (the various stage-structures) and encouraging them to grow in mind, body and soul and celebrate life.

I have a comment on ISC Customer Service:

I submitted a question a couple weeks ago for this upcoming conference call, but I haven't heard anything back.  At this point, I imagine that means my question was not selected -- which is fine.  I do have a complaint, however:  there should be a system for acknowledging receipt of questions, and at least a "form letter" indicating whether your question was selected or not.  I think this kind of courtesy should be shown to paying members, and I am disappointed that it has not been.  Particularly since I have contacted ISC several times and not had a single response.

Well, as soon as I posted that, I heard from ISC!  I'm not sure if it was in response to my comment, or if I just complained too soon.  In either case...thanks Rollie!

Sorry about my anger and hurtful feelings.  I have a lot of forgiveness and rage to let go.  Anthony Robbins actually helped me out a lot.  He changed my life totally around in the early 90's and he and a Yoga teacher started me out on my spiritual practice.  I owe a lot to Anthony Robbins and my Yoga teacher.  It is just, I don't know, I'm  unbelievably, freaking jealous.  I do not have a community to take refuge in - besides drunks - and I don't have a wife.  It's hard.  Sorry.  Take care and God Bless - Josh

Hello Gang,

Thanks for this discussion!  I have had the privilege of meeting Tony and he is a deeply profound being.  Ken has said that he has sort of "grown up in public" - he clearly had an "orange" stage, with which he is commonly identified and even typecast.  But he has gone far, far beyond that....

And Balder, thank you for your suggestion, which is an excellent one.  The questions are all very much appreciated, and I would like to be able to get back to people either way.  And no, I hadn't yet read your forum posting when I emailed you!  :-)  It was just a really good question!  We are looking forward to having you on the call.
